Set Up Patron Access
Patron access options
For the best Follett digital experience, it is recommended that patrons log in with a unique username and password. This lets them check out, place a hold, and submit a review to Follett digital resources, as well as use the Notebook. Patron records are maintained in Destiny Library Manager (Back Office > Manage Patrons). For more information, contact the person in your district responsible for managing student and faculty data.
A Shared Account lets patrons access Follett Digital materials with a shared username and password. In addition, you can set up specific IP addresses to be logged in to the Shared Account automatically. With a Shared Account, patrons can open a title that has at least one copy that is not checked out or in use. Shared Account users cannot check materials out, place holds, submit a review to Follett digital resources, or use the Notebook. You can grant or deny access to Shared Account users by circulation type.
Set up patron accounts
If patrons will be logging in with unique usernames and passwords, complete the following steps to ensure patron accounts are set up appropriately:
- Go to Follett Digital Setup (Select Catalog > Search Setup > Digital > Digital Setup).
- In the Patron Account section, select or deselect the following options:
Allow patron to checkout (via Reader)

Select to let patrons check out an eBook from an open eBook.
If this option is deselected, patrons will still see the Checkout option in an open eBook; however, if they select it, they will get a message stating they do not have permission to check out the eBook.
Important: If this option is deselected, patrons still have permission to check out an eBook from search results and Title Details pages.

Allow patron to submit library review

Select this option to enable the “Add a Review” link in the title details of a Follett digital resource. Patrons can click the link to rate a Follett digital resource (1–5 stars) and optionally include up to 1,000 characters of text.

Approval not required for submitted reviews

If this option is deselected, reviews for Follett digital resources will not appear in the Reviews section of a title’s details until approved by library staff. If it is selected, a review appears as soon as a patron submits it.
Note: To approve a review, go to Follett Digital Setup (Select Catalog > Search Setup > Digital > Digital Setup), and then select Approve Reviews.

- Click Save.
If patrons will be accessing eBooks with a Shared Account, complete the following steps:
- Go to Follett Digital Setup (Select Catalog > Search Setup > Digital > Digital Setup).
- Click Access Levels.
- In the Shared Account section, type a Login and Password for patrons to use to log in to Destiny Discover.
- If you want to set up specific computers to automatically be logged in to the Shared Account, you can set up IP authentication. To do so:
- Click Configure IP Addresses.
- Select Single WAN IP address to add individual devices or Range of WAN IP addresses to add multiple computers in a particular range. If you are not sure how to obtain an IP address, consult your district IT staff.
- Type the IP address of the computer or group of computers you want to grant access for. If you selected "Range of WAN IP addresses," type the subnet mask of the network in the Subnet Mask field.
- Click Add.
- When you are done adding computers or ranges, click Close.
- Click Save.
